Autapomorphy of Ephemerella/fg3.

(1) Tergalii I [initially stick-like – see Ephemerella/fg1 (13)] are lost (non-unique apomorphy – see Index of characters [1.3.33]); thus only tergalii III-VII are present [see Ephemerella/fg2 (1)] (Kluge 2004: Fig.91:A).

Plesiomorphies of Ephemerella/fg3. Unlike Timpanoga/fg1, tergalii III are retained, having structure typical for Ephemerella/fg1 [see Ephemerella/fg1 (7)]; usually tergalii III have approximately the same size as tergalii IV-VI (Kluge 2004: Fig.91:A), but sometimes tergalii III are enlarged, transformed to gill opercula and cover the others (see Table).

Size. Fore wing length 5–19 mm.

Distribution. Holarctic and Oriental Region.
