COMMENT. The taxon Pterygota unites winged and secondarily wingless insects. Before the name Pterygota introduced, for a taxon initing winged insects, following names were suggested: Alata Retzuis 1783, Pterophora Clairville 1798, Pterodicera Latreille 1802, Metabolia Leach 1815, Ptilota (Aristoteles) MacLeay 1821, Emptera Amyot 1848, Insecta sensu Latreille 1810 & Lamarck 1801-1835 (non Insecta Linnaeus 1758). However, originally taxa under all these names did not include a secondarily wingless insect taxon Pseudorhynchota (= Parasita); Alata and Pterophora besides this, did not include another secondarily wingless insect taxon Aphaniptera (= Pulex). |
