COMMENT. Some modern authors wrongly use the name Dictyoptera for a holophyletic taxon Pandictyoptera Crampton 1917 (which units Neoblattariae + Isoptera + Raptoriae) and ascribe to it the authorship "Leach 1815". Actually Leach in in all his publications used the name Dictuoptera (not Dictyoptera) and attributed it to Neoblattariae only, not uniting them with Isoptera and/or Raptoriae.

4) OPINION

The name Dictyoptera is translated from Latin as "lace-wings", while insects called "lace-wings" (in various senses) are often called Neuroptera. This tradition agrees with the first sense of this name – Dictyoptera Clairville 1798. The name Dictyoptera Clairville 1798 was not forgotten: basing on homonymy with it, the name Dictyoptera Brulle 1832 was renamed to Arkiptera Laporte 1834 and Amphibiotica Gerstaecker 1863, and the name Dictyoptera Dohrn 1866 was renamed to Palaeodictyoptera Goldenberg 1877; this was generally accepted, in spite of the fact that the older name Dictyoptera never was valid. In order to avoid confusion, the name Dictyoptera should not be used for any taxon.
