Autapomorphy of Caucasiron. (1) Each tergalius II–VII on its costal rib [which is situated on costal margin, bears spines and setae – see Epeorus/fg3 (2)] has a sharp projection covered with spines and directed anteriorly-dorsally (Kluge 2004: Fig.65:G); this projection can be well-developed on all tergalii II–VII, or at least on anteriormost of them. Unique apomorphy. Plesiomorphy of Caucasiron. Penis has a pair of well-developed median titillators [see Pentamerotarsata (5)] (unlike Ironopsis/g2, Epeorus/fg4 and some others). Variable characters of Caucasiron. Imaginal and subimaginal claws are usually ephemeropteroid, but in guttatus [Iron] – pointed (see Variable characters of Heptagennota and Index of characters [2.2.85]). |
Size. Fore wing length 10–20 mm.
Distribution. Greece, Caucasus and Tienshan-Himalayan Rhithrofaunisctic Region.
