Autapomorphy of Caenopsella/g1. (1) Eyes of male are much larger than in female; width of eye is greater than half of distance between eyes, length of eye exceeds head length, thus eyes are projected posteriad of posterior head margin (Malzacher 1993: Fig.1). At the same time, eyes have the same shape as in female, and the same as in males of other Caenoptera – spherical, without division to dorsal and ventral portion; this allows to conclude that male eyes of Caenopsella/g1 are enlarged secondarily, but not retain the sexual dimorphism initial for Ephemeroptera [see Caenoptera (15)]. Plesiomorphies of Caenopsella/g1. Maxillary palp is 3-segmented (unlike Clypeocaenis/g2). Gonostyli are nearly straight, with one or two thin apical processes (similar to some Caenis/f5=g3, which have several processes of such kind). |
Size. Fore wing length 2–8 mm.
Distribution. Afrotropical Region.
