Autapomorphis of Atalophleboculata.

(1) In males of all stages (imago, subimago and larva), facets of dorsal portion of compound eye are square (on ventral portion of compound eye facets are hexagonal, as well as in other Ephemeroptera) (Kluge 1984: Fig.1-3). Unique apomorphy: in other Ephemeroptera square facets are not found; square facets are found in some other Euarthropoda (Eucrustacea, Trilobita), but there is no division of eye to the portions peculiar for Ephemeroptera (Peters & Gillies 1995).

(2) Labrum [with 2 transverse setal rows – see Atalophlebopectinata (2)] lost stout setae on distal margin [see Leptophlebia/fg1 (2)]; median incision of anterior margin often bears flat denticles separated by narrow incisions with one sensilla in each incision. Number of denticles varies from 6 to less, usually 5. In some taxa labrum is modified and these denticles are lost, sometimes incision is lost (see Index of characters [1.1.16]).

Size. Fore wing length 2–15 mm.

Age and distribution. World-wide.
