References. Kluge 2019:

Autapomorphies of Potamocloeon.

() Outer side of femur in distal half with regular longitudinal arched row of hairs (Kluge 2019: Fig.37-38, 45-46) (instead of transverse or oblique row in some other taxa).

() In male imago, penial arms are short and thick, with apices bent distally, blunt and free (not fused with penial bridge) (Kluge 2019: Fig.8-10, 12, 71).

Characters of Potamocloeon of unclear phylogenetic status (the same only in Centroptella/g1).

() Larval tibiae modified and differentiated as following: Patella-tibial suture on fore leg absent [see plesiomorphy of Protopatellata], on larval middle and hind legs greatly shifted distally, so that runs from midlength of outer side to nearly apex of inner side (on subimaginal and imaginal legs patella-tibial suture retains normal position on proximal part of tibia). Each tibia with regular U-shaped row of very long hairs; two arms of this row connected proximally on outer side; anterior arm stretched longitudinally up to beginning of patella-tibial suture (on middle and hind tibiae) or to corresponding place (on fore tibia, where patella-tibial suture absent); posterior arm stretched transversely on fore tibia, obliquely on middle tibia) and longitudinally on hind tibia (Kluge 2019: Fig.47-49). The same in Centroptella/g1 (2) (see Index of characters [1.2.18]).

Other characters of Potamocloeon of unclear phylogenetic status.

() In larva apex of each femur with 2 stout spatulate setae (Kluge 2019: Fig.45-49).

() In larva outer-apical spatulate seta present on fore tibia, absent on middle and hind tibiae (Kluge 2019: Fig.47-49, 50-51) (see Index of characters [1.2.17]).

() Larval claws without denticles (Kluge 2019: Fig.41-42).

() Larval abdominal sterna with paired transverse rows of long bifurcate setae (Kluge 2019: Fig.52-55). The same in Centroptella/g1 and some Procloeon/g1.

() Hind wings are absent [see Index of characters [2.2.59]).

Plesiomorphies of Potamocloeon.

Fore wings with no more than one marginal intercalary in each space (Kluge 2019: Fig.13) (unlike Baetovectata) [see Liberevenata (2)] (Index of characters [2.2.55]).

Lateral margins of all abdominal segments lack spines or denticles (unlike Cloeon/fg1 and Anafroptilum).

Before moult from larva to subimago, subimaginal gonostyli are bent under larval cuticle in «Cloeon-type» pose, i.e. with 2nd segments directed laterally (Kluge 2019: Fig.72). The same in most other Protopatellata and Anteropatellata-non-Baetovectata (see Index of characters [2.3.9]).

Size. Fore wing length 3.5–5 mm (see Tetramerotarsata).

Distribution. Afrotropical Region.
