Autapomorphies of Branchiobaetis. (1) Subimaginal gonostyli developing under cuticle of last instar larvae folded in «Branchiobaetis-type»: segment II sharply bent towards middle, last segment sharply bent laterally (Kaltenbach & Kluge & Gattolliat 2022: Figs 4a–d, 10a, b) (see Index of characters [2.3.9]) Characters of Branchiobaetis of unclear phylogenetic status. (2) Larva with finger-like tracheal gills supplied with trachea: one gill on each maxilla, on outer side of articulation between stipes and cardo (Kaltenbach & Kluge & Gattolliat 2022: Fig. 1a) and one gill on inner side of fore coxal articulation (between coxa and prosternum) (Kaltenbach & Kluge & Gattolliat 2022: Figs 1b). The same in some other taxa (see Index of characters [1d]) (3) Larval leg of each pair with bubble-like membranous swelling between coxa and trochanter and between coxa and pleurite (Kaltenbach & Kluge & Gattolliat 2022: Figs 1b, 2a–c). Plesiomorphies of Branchiobaetis. (4) Hind wings present, with three longitudinal veins and well developed triangular costal projection (Kaltenbach & Kluge & Gattolliat 2022: Fig. 9d, e). |
Size. Fore wing length 6–10 mm (see Tetramerotarsata).
