Autapomorphies of Baetodes/g3. (1) Tergalii I–V are turned ventrally; tergalii are VI–VII lost. () Larval tibiae of all legs are elongate; patella-tibial suture [longitudinal – see Baetodes/g2 (1)] distally is unusually sharply expressed on anterior (dorsal) and inner side of tibia. Just distad of apex of the patella-tibial suture, there is a transverse or oblique impression on tibia. ???Along outer margin of tibia [.... partly along patella-tibial suture – see Baetodes/g2??? ()] there is a regular row of long slender setae (non-unique apomorphy – see Index of characters [1.2.17]); along outer margin of femur there is the same regular row of slender setae (besides a more sparse row of long stout setae, which is present in majority of Turbanoculata). ... Characters of Baetodes/g3 of unclear phylogenetic status. Plesiomorphies of Baetodes/g3. In mature larva ready to moult to subimago, buds of subimaginal gonostyli are folded under larval cuticle by the "Nigrobaetis-type": 2nd segment of gonostylus is directed posteriorly and curved by its convexity medially and by apex laterally [see Baetovectata (3)] (see Index of characters [2.3.9]). Variable characters of Baetodes/g3. In some species on median side of leg articulation of coxa and trochanter bears 1 or 2 gill processes. In some species each abdominal tergum bears an unpaired projection or spine (non-unique character – see Index of characters [1.3.3]). |
Size. Fore wing length 4–8 mm (see Tetramerotarsata).
Distribution. America (dominate in Neotropical Region).
