MODERN STATUS:  the valid name of a widely accepted, extinct taxon (see COMMENT).

COMMENT. Often here, besides others, is placed a Lower Jurassic species Protomyrmeleon brunonis Geinitz 1887, for which there were established a family Protomyrmeleontidae Handlirsch 1906 and a suborder Archizygoptera Handlirsch 1906. In this case the oldest name of this taxon should be not Protozygoptera, but Archizygoptera, and the correct typified name(s) – Protomyrmeleon/fg. But P. brunonis is known only as a fragment of wing, thus its systematic position gave rise do disagreement.
