COMMENT. Originally a taxon under the name Entognatha Stummer-Traunfels 1891 was suggested to unite Campodeidae and Iapygidae (which were attributed to the order Thysanura sensu Lubbock 1873) and the order Collembola Lubbock 1873; at that time the taxon Protura Silvestri 1907 was not described yet, thus it can not be regarded as excluded from the original circumscription of Entognatha. Later some authors used the name Entognatha for a suborder of the order Cinura (= Thysanura sensu Lubbock 1873), and included in this suborder only the families Campodeidae and Iapygidae (in such sence the name Entognatha corresponded to Diplura). Recently the name Entognatha is generally accepted in its original circumscription, with adding Protura . |
