COMMENTS. Often for this taxon a wrong name Chilognatha is used. Actually the name Chilognatha Latreille 1802 is the oldest synonym of Diplopoda Gervais 1844. Probably, for the first time the name "Chilognatha" was applied for Anguiformia by Pocock 1887; earlier another restriction of the name Chilognatha was made by Latzel (1884). The name Anguiformia Latreille 1825 should not be confused with the name Anguiformes Latreille 1831 (whose Latin spelling coincides with the French spelling of Anguiformia): the name Anguiformes is the senior synonym of Proterandria. |
