Characters of Rhithrogeniella/g1 of uncleart phylogenetic status. (1) Ventral sclerites of penis distad-laterad of titillators [see Pentamerotarsata (5)], bear one or several pairs of denticles ("discal spines") directed distally-laterally (Kluge 1980: Fig.64,71,83,90,103). Only in a few species these "discal spines" are secondarily lost (particularly in ornata Rhithrogeniella] – Kluge et al. 2023: Figs 69–73). The same in Compsoneuriella/g1. Plesiomorphies of Rhithrogeniella/g1. (2) Maxilla with distal dentiseta simple, non-branched (Kluge et al. 2023: Fig. 33) (the same in Ecdyonurus/fg, Leucrocuta and Ecdyogymnurus; in contrast to Atopopus/fg1). (2) Larval pronotum without lateral projections stretched laterad of mesonotum (Kluge et al. 2023: Figs 1–3) (in contrast to Ecdyonurus/fg2). (4) Larval caudalii with swimming setae: regular or irregular row of primary swimming setae is present at least on each lateral side of paracercus and on median (i.e. inner) side of each cercus (Kluge et al. 2023:Fig. 47) (the same in Ecdyonurus/fg2, in contrast to other taxa within Ecdyonurus/fg1). Similar secondary setae on lateral (i.e. outer) side of each cercus are either absent, or present: they are present in all examined individuals of ornatus [Rhithrogeniella] (Kluge et al. 2023: Figs 48–50) and in some individuals of joernensis [Ecdyonurus] (Kluge et al. 2023: Fig. 52), but absent in other examined species. |
Size. Fore wing length 5–9 mm.
Distribution. Holarctic (dominate in Eastern Palaearctic and Nearctic).
