COMMENT. Often the name Pseudoscorpii is confused with the name Pseudoscorpiones Latreille 1825, which actually belongs to a taxon uniting Pseudoscorpii and Mycetophora, being the senior synonym of Haplocnemata Börner 1904. The error comes from the fact, that the both names are Latin translations of the initial French name Faux-Scorpions, which was used by De Geer (1778) for Pseudoscorpii (at that time all Pseudoscorpii constituted a single genus Chelifer, and did not need a Latin circumscriptional name). Often for Pseudoscorpii a wrong name Chelonethi is used. Actually, a circumscriptional synonym of Pseudoscorpii is Diplochelonethi Thorell 1882, while the name Chelonethi Thorell 1882 was given for a taxon which united Pseudoscorpii (= Diplochelonethi) with Haplochelonethi Thorell 1882 (nomen nudum). |
