MODERN STATUS: the valid, the oldest name for a taxon which is most probaly holophyletic. |
COMMENT. Originally (Haeckel 1874), the name "Haemataria" was connected with a statement that these animals primarily have a body cavity filled with liquid (either blood or coelomic liquid); the other name – "Pentablasteria" was connected with a statement that they primarily have 5 embryonic cell layers. Probably, the both characters are wrong, being not initial for this taxon. But holophyly of this taxon is supported by a real autapomorphy – initial presence of anus. The name Haemataria is the oldest one and, thus, should be valid, in spite of the fact that id does not reflect true character. |
