In spite of the fact that the name Neoptera Martynov 1923 is preoccupied, it should be valid, because recently is more widely used than its junior circumscriptional synonyms Neopterygota, Neoptilota, Opisthoptera and Neopterata; its senior homonym Neoptera Woodworth 1906 is invalid, being a forgotten junior synonym of Zygothoraca Schoch 1884 and belonging to a non-accepted taxon.
