Autapomorphies of Siphlonisca.

(1) Maxilla lacks apical-ventral row of setae (unlike all other Siphlonurus/fg1). Non-unique apomorphy (see Index of characters [1.1.31]).

(2) In imago and subimago of both sexes abdominal segments V–IX have large lateral lobes; non-unique apomorphy, similar lobes in selected species of Oniscigaster/fg2 and some others. 

Plesiomorphies of Siphlonisca. Unlike Parameletus/fg2: On hind wing MP with bifurcation proximad of wing middle. 2nd segment of labial palp has no projection.

Size. Fore wing length 15–17 mm.

Distribution. Eastern Nearctic.
