(Panephemeroptera Euephemeroptera Euplectoptera Anteritorna Bidentiseta Furcatergaliae
Fimbriatotergaliae Caenotergaliae Neoephemera/fg1 - Pulchephemera)

Nomen hierarchicum: Pulchephemera/g(1) [g:2021]

In circumscription fits:

— gen. Pulchephemera Zhou (in Ma & Zhou 2021: 16),

References. Ma & Zhou 2021:

Autapomorphies of Pulchephemera.

(1) Larval head with prominent shelf-like frontal projection covering clypeus and mouthparts from above (Ma & Zhou 2021: Fig. 2A).

Characters of Pulchephemera of unclear phylogenetic status

(2) On fore leg of male imago both claws are blunt (in subimago ephemeropteroid). Non-unique apomorphy (see Index of characters [2.2.77]); among Neoephemera/fg1 the same in Potamanthellus/g1 and Leucorhounanthus; possibly synapomorphy.

(3) Costal projection of hind wing rounded (Ma & Zhou 2021: Fig.8). As in Potamanthellus/g1, in contrast to other Neoephemera/fg1 and in contrast to Potamanthus/fg1, whose costal projection of hind wing is sharply pointed (Kluge 2004: Fig. 68B, 81B); possibly, synapomorphy with Potamanthellus/fg1.

Plesiomorphies of Pulchephemera. Larval and adult patella-tibial suture is developed on middle and hind legs (unlike Ochernova). Unlike Potamanthellus/g1, larval caudalii without secondary swimming setae. Gonostyli are not diminished, median incision of penis is small (unlike Potamanthellus/g1). Imaginal paracercus is well-developed (unlike Leucorhoenanthus and Potamanthellus/g1).

Size. Fore wing length 17–20 mm.

Distribution. China.

Nominal species in Pulchephemera/g(1):
