Characters of Similicloeon of unclear phylogenetic status.

(1) Larval caudalii with strongly stretched last segments, which lack swimming setae (unlike Procloeon/g1 and Pseudocentroptilum).

(2) External projection of penial bridge [see Cloeon/fg1 ()] is truncate or rounded. The same in Procloeon/g1.

(3) Hind wings [see Cloeon/fg1 ()] are always absent (see Index of characters [2.2.59]).

Plesiomorphies and variable characters of Similicloeon. Labial palp with 3rd segment [truncate see Cloeon/fg1 ()] either non-widened (in simile [Cloeon] et al), or widened apically (in spiniventre [C.] and peteropolitanum [C.]).

Unlike Cloeon/fg2, larval tergalii are not widened, dorsal lamella of moderate size, without anterior-proximal lobe; eggs with stout chorion.

Unlike Procloeon/g1, larval cerci without enlarged spines on outer side.

Size. Fore wing length 510 mm (see Tetramerotarsata).

Distribution. Probably, Palaearctic, Oriental and Australian Regions (for certain Palaearctic).
