Character of Bugilliesia of unclear phylogenetic status.

(1) In species, whose larvae are known, labrum lacks a pair of submedian setae, and latero-distal setae form rather long rows. The same in some other Turbanoculata (see Index of characters [1.1.14] ).

(2) 2nd segment of labial palp has projected medio-apical angle. Muscle moving 3rd segment is retained. The same in some non-related taxa (see Index of characters [1.1.58]).

Plesiomorphies of Bugilliesia.

(3) Hind wings present, of «Centroptilum-type»: narrow, with two longitudinal veins, with simple (not bipointed) hooked costal process (Kluge 2012: Fig.43) [see Rhithrocloeon/fg1 (4)] (see Index of characters [2.2.62]).

(4) Larval claw [slender – see Rhithrocloeon/fg2 (4)] retains both rows of denticles (see Index of characters [1.2.21]) (Kluge 2015: Fig.55).

(5) Unlike Kivuiops, maxilla [of «Cloeon-type» – see Rhithrocloeon/fg2 (3)] retains more than one setae in inner-dorsal row.

Size. Fore wing length 3–12 mm (see Tetramerotarsata).

Distribution. Afrotropical Region.
