Autapomorphies of Americabaetis.

...

Characters of Americabaetis of unclear phylogenetic status.

() Hind wings are lost [see Turbanoculata (10)]. Non-unique apomorphy (see Index of characters [2.2.59]).

() Larval antennae bases are not turned together, frons between them does not form a keel (see Index of characters [1.1.3]).

() Paraglossae are strongly (not less than 2 times) wider than glossae and are much longer them. The same in in some other taxa.

() 2nd (penultimate) segment of labialpalp has large apical-median projection. The same in some other taxa (see Index of characters [1.1.58]).

() Larval abdominal terga with scales in operculate sockets [see Turbanoculata (12)] (see Index of characters [1.3.4]).

Plesiomorphies of Americabaetis.

In mature larva ready to moult to subimago, buds of subimaginal gonostyli are folded under larval cuticle by the "Nigrobaetis-type": 2nd segment of gonostylus is directed posteriorly and curved by its convexity medially and by apex laterally [see Baetovectata (3)] (see Index of characters [2.3.9]). Larval paracercus is developed.

Size. Fore wing length 4–5 mm (see Tetramerotarsata).

Distribution. America (dominate in Neotropical Region).
